The Challenge
Students were abandoning the application mid-way due to confusing navigation and unclear document requirements. The existing design had no error recovery and poor mobile support.
The Outcome
A fully prototyped redesign demonstrating a 40% reduction in simulated task completion time, with AI-assisted document checklist and streamlined step-by-step flow.
Apply Ease is an AI-powered university application assistant designed to remove friction from one of the most stressful experiences a student can face. The existing platform was cluttered, confusing, and caused significant drop-off at key steps.
The redesign began with a deep research phase — interviews with 12 prospective students revealed that anxiety around deadlines and document management were the primary pain points. I mapped out the full application journey and identified 7 key friction moments.
The new interface introduces an AI assistant that proactively surfaces requirements, checks for missing documents, and guides students through each step with plain-language explanations. The visual language is calm and structured — high contrast, clear hierarchy, and generous white space to reduce cognitive load.
